What is a Rasayana?
Classical Ayurveda is divided into eight branches. One of them, Rasayana, deals with rejuvenation: preparations and habits meant to support strength and vitality over a long life rather than to treat a single complaint.
Chyawanprash is the best-known Rasayana. It is named after the sage Chyavana, and its recipe appears in the Charaka Samhita, in the first chapter of the Chikitsa Sthana. It is a dense jam of amla cooked with herbs, spices, ghee and a sweetener.
Because a Rasayana is meant for steady use, it is usually taken in a small amount every day, often in the morning and traditionally with warm milk. Follow the dose printed on the jar.
